Introduction to Saturday’s Football Action
Saturday brings the start of the new League One and League Two seasons in the EFL, while there is also plenty of action to get stuck into across Scotland and across Europe. We have a trio of selections, all coming from matches north of the border.
Saturday Football Betting Tips
Our selections for the day include a bet of the day, a longshot of the day, and a special accumulator bet.
Bet of the Day
Edinburgh City can get their Scottish League Two season underway with a capital victory over Sterling. Manager Michael McIndoe will be working with a small and young squad once again, but that was no barrier to the 35-year-old, who steered his side to a third-place finish last term. Sterling lost all four of their Scottish League Cup group stage games in the lead-up to the new league campaign, failing to score a single goal in those defeats, and they look set to struggle at Meadowbank. Edinburgh City to beat Sterling is available at 5/4.
Longshot of the Day
Kilmarnock lost manager Derek McInnes to Hearts in the summer and there are major concerns for Killie going into the new season. The Rugby Park side could finish only ninth in the Scottish Premiership last season, and with former captain Kyle Vassell also departing, Kilmarnock are starting the new campaign in a weaker position. Livingston make the step up to the top flight following last season’s promotion and they should be a solid side under David Martindale. Livingston to win and both teams to score – No is available at 19/4.
Special of the Day
Hamilton start the season in disarray and they can be opposed when Montrose come to town. John Rankin’s men won’t be playing their home games at New Douglas Park and you have to wonder how much support they will get with the current off-field issues. In League One, Blackpool will be hoping for a positive start to the campaign and they can achieve this by defeating Stevenage at Bloomfield Road. Finally, Bradford look like they can start off League One in style with a home victory over Wycombe, who have to pick themselves up after last season’s play-off semi-finals disappointment. The accumulator bet of Montrose draw no bet v Hamilton, Blackpool to beat Stevenage & Bradford to beat Wycombe is available at 11/1.
