Introduction to Responsible Gaming

Identifying Problem Gamblers
The trainees were taught to look out for red flags, including repeated complaints about losses or chasing losses, asking for deposit limits to be removed or increased repeatedly, agitation, anger, and desperation in tone, mentioning gambling all night or hiding it from loved ones, and telling support staff they need to win money to pay bills. By recognizing these signs, customer service staff can provide timely interventions and support to customers who may be struggling with problem gambling.
The 4Cs of Addiction
The facilitator, Dr. Tunji Odebiyi, a Clinical Psychologist, also emphasized the importance of understanding the 4Cs of addiction, namely, control, consequences, compulsion, and craving. These concepts help customer service staff to categorize customers into compartments ranging from complainants to the aggressive, the abusers, those who call the customer support staff all kinds of names, and the cursers to the toaster.
